Welcome long tail chasers!

Pheasant hunters accross the country have long awaited a way to score their harvested roosters.

In October, 2009 Pheasants forever rolled out standardized method to measure and score your long tailed and sharp spurred roosters.

To score your rooster:

  • measure the length from the rear of the cloaca to the tip of the tail (to the nearest 1/4 inch) and multiply by 5. spur web
  • measure the length from the front of the leg to the back of the spur on each leg (to the nearest 1/8 inch)Multiply the sum of these measurements by 25.
  • Add the totals together. Long-tailed mature birds will score 140+.

If you have a record rooster, you should put it in the record book. To submit a record rooster to the record book, download and submit the official Rooster Record Book application, certification and scoring instructions below.
